Stillman & Birn was founded by Viennese bookbinder Philip Birn in 1958. Birn brought old-world craftmanship to his plant in the SoHo district of New York, where he pioneered the concept of the black hardbound sketchbook. Today, Stillman & Birn is still committed to developing quality sketchbooks in response to artists' needs.
