Improves your penmanship!...
Improves your penmanship!
I picked up one of these recently on a whim. I had every intention of purchasing
another Sarasa Grand (a pen which I seriously love and which, along with the
indomitable F-701, has made a Zebra concert out of me) but, since I already own
three Sarasa Grands I picked up the Dr. Grip G-Spec.
I’d heard a lot of good things about this pen and, because I do a lot of
writing in both my professional and personal life and have had my fair share of
hand cramps, I was curious to know if, indeed, the Dr. Grip was as comfortable
and ergonomic as it has been purported to be.
The packaging was not extraordinary—easily confused with any other budget pen.
Only this pen is not cheap. This is a lot for a pen, especially when you can
have an F-701 (one of my Hall of Famers) for less. However, things changed once
I had the pen in my hands. For starters, it felt substantial presses between my
thumb and fingers. The grip—I confess I hadn’t used or, to the best of my
knowledge, held a hell gripped pen since middle school and hadn’t known what
to expect. The grip had a surprisingly refined feel. It was almost like memory
foam, slowing depressing to fit the contours of my fingers, all the while
remaining comfortable and, for lack of a better word, grippy.
The real revelation came, however, after about an hour or so of writing.
Typically, if I write for half that long my hand cramps up and I have to massage
it and continue with less verve. But after using the Dr. Grip for an hour, my
hand felt fine. And it’s a good writer too. The ink is more hybrid than gel,
which, for work application is the perfect balance. I could be crazy, but when I
use this pen I notice or, at least I feel as though I do, that my handwriting
improves a little. I gave it to my coweorker to try and he had the same
reaction, so maybe there is something to it. The Dr. Grip G tech improves your
penmanship.
It’s not the prettiest pen in the world, but as a writer, it’s pretty hard
to beat this one.
I recommend it to anyone who does a lot of writing.
